Chris Alexander’s
FILM SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL!
presents
Jess Franco's BLOODY MOON
and
Otto Preminger's THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM

Film critic and radio personality Chris Alexander (Fangoria, AM 640 Toronto, Metro) presents a new screening and lecture series…
It's film school with a "B-Movie" twist.

Twice a month, every month, Toronto’s legendary Bloor Cinema plays host to a fun filled, educational and totally irreverent master class in cinema history, featuring many oddball motion pictures that rarely ever make the list of any higher education film syllabus.

Coming in December....

JESS FRANCO’S BLOODY MOON (1981)
Wednesday, December 9th, 9:30pm

FILM SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL! is pleased to present this sick and twisted early 80’s German slasher shocker from notorious Eurotrash exploitation king Jess Franco (Vampyros Lesbos). The Spanish born Franco once studied under Orson Welles and was groomed to be a major force in cinema, but got lost in the 70’s European horror and porn underground, resulting in a less than savory reputation. BLOODY MOON is one of his nastiest efforts: an ultra gory, ultra goofy and completely fascinating “body count” film that was banned in the UK as part of the legendary “Video Nasty” witch hunt…and deservedly so. Film critic Chris Alexander will provide an in-depth, pre-screening lecture about both the film and the work of Jess Franco followed by a post-film discussion.

THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM (1955)
Thursday, December 17th, 9:30pm

FILM SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL! takes a break from analyzing “B movies” to bring you this classic 1955 Otto Preminger masterpiece, a bold and brave portrait of a man teetering on the edge of addiction. Frank Sinatra gives a shattering performance as Frankie Machine, an ex-junkie card dealer fresh from prison trying to go straight in a world that does everything in its power to drag him back into hell. THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM was the first Hollywood film to deal with the horrors of heroin addiction and – although typically stylish and theatrical in true Preminger fashion – it pulls few punches, sucking the viewer into an urban nightmare full of desperate characters and broken dreams, all played out to the strains of Elmer Bernstein’s jazzy score. Film critic Chris Alexander will provide an in-depth, pre-screening lecture about the film followed by a post-film discussion.

Each screening features an in-depth, entertaining, informative and often humorous lecture from Alexander as well as post-film wrap up and discussion in the Bloor Cinema lounge.

Each screening costs $8 with your Bloor Cinema membership and $10 for non-members, with no commitment to attend any other screenings than the ones you wish to attend.

This series is kindly sponsored by Severin Films (www.severin-films.com), one of the leaders in eccentric, international exploitation films on DVD and the self professed “Criterion of Smut”. Prizes are provided upon a post screening quiz for the savvier students...
