THIS FEBRUARY at THE BLOOR CINEMA
Chris Alexander’s
FILM SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL!
presents

"Daffy British Supernatural Biker Thriller"
PSYCHOMANIA
Plus
Ken Russell's
LAIR OF THE WHITE WORM

Film critic and media personality Chris Alexander (Fangoria, AM 640 Toronto, Metro) presents a new screening and lecture series…It's film school with a twist.

Twice a month, every month, Toronto’s legendary Bloor Cinema plays host to a fun filled, educational and totally irreverent master class in cinema history, featuring many oddball motion pictures that rarely ever make the list of any higher education film syllabus.

PSYCHOMANIA

EASY RIDER meets A CLOCKWORK ORANGE by way of ROSEMARY’S BABY in this truly lunatic artifact of post-mod British kitsch. Nicky Henson (THE WITCHFINDER GENERAL) stars as the leader of a London biker gang called “The Living Dead”, a snotty gaggle of leather clad hooligans rebelling against polite society. When Tom’s psychic mother and sinister butler (THE PORTRAIT OF DORIAN GRAY’s George Sanders) share with him the secret of eternal life through suicide, the gang begin offing themselves in outrageous ways, roaring back as the literal “living dead”. Full of weird violence, ridiculous dialogue and an incredible psyche-rock score by John Cameron, PSYCHOMANIA is a one of a kind cult classic that must be seen to be (dis)believed.

Ken Russell’s THE LAIR OF THE WHITE WORM

Think you’ve seen it all? Think again! British enfant terrible Ken Russell fulfills the outrageous promise of his 70’s shockers THE DEVILS, TOMMY and LISZTOMANIA with this underrated and often forgotten wallow in lurid sex, vampirism, black comedy and sheer audaciousness, loosely (and we mean loosely) based on a novel by Bram Stoker. Ridiculously sexy Amanda Donohoe (Nicolas Roeg’s CASTAWAY) stars as the decadent, fanged aristocrat Lady Sylvia Marsh who rolls into the British countryside looking for virgins to sacrifice to her mammoth reptile deity. Along the way she runs afoul of a Scottish archaeologist (Peter Capaldi), two recently orphaned sisters (Sammi Davis and Catherine Oxenberg) and a broadsword wielding heir (an early turn by Hugh Grant), all of whom intend to bring her down…in more ways than one. Bursting with over-the-top eroticism, hallucinatory (and offensive) visuals and a wicked sense of humour, this is Ken Russell at his demented best.

Each screening features an in-depth, entertaining, informative and often humorous lecture from Alexander as well as post-film wrap up and discussion in the Bloor Cinema lounge.

Each screening costs $8 with your Bloor Cinema membership and $10 for non-members, with no commitment to attend any other screenings than the ones you wish to attend.
